2009-09-01 Global Media Industry amid Economic Downturn
Just like the auto and banking sectors, the global media industry has been experiencing a contraction of job losses, mergers and the closures of some well-known titles. Recently, Rupert Murdoch said News Corp will start charging for access to the global media group's online news content, which is regarded as a move to combat what he described as the 'the tumultuous and unprecedented change that affecting the whole media sector'. And here in China, the 2009 Blue Book on China's Media Industry says that in the economic downturn, the worst hit part within the industry is online advertising, while online gaming continues enjoying huge growth.
So what are the strategies for media, especially traditional media like the newspapers, to survive the global economic downturn? And how's media in China being coping in the economic climate?
