Summary

Peter Cox specialises in providing corporate advisory services to Australian and overseas suppliers, operators, bankers and investors in the Australian, communications and media industry.
Peter Cox began his career in marketing and finance in industry and merchant banking before establishing in 1976 a specialist management consulting business to the media industry.
Early clients included the management of the business affairs of Michael Willesee and his television production company, Trans Media Productions, and being responsible as Managing Director for the planning, building and establishment of 2DAY-FM, one of the most successful radio stations in Australia.
The Department of Transport and Communications commissioned Peter in 1990 to write an independent report on the effect the introduction of Pay TV in Australia would have on the commercial television industry. This report was a part of the DOTAC submission instrumental in changing the Government Cabinet decision to favour introducing Pay TV.
Peter was invited in 1991 to address the Caucus Transport and Communications Committee on Pay TV and has consulted to many companies and organisations on its introduction to Australia.
In 1992 Peter was appointed consultant to the Senate Select Committee on Subscription Television Broadcasting Services. The Pay TV clients of Peter J. Cox & Associates have included many of the parties in Pay TV in Australia.
Peter has been a leading advocate of new technology into Australia for a long period from involvement in the introduction of commercial FM in the late 70’s to digital satellite transmission, Pay TV and broadband telephony and data services in the 90’s. This experience has been built with both high technology overseas and Australian companies.
As a recognised authority in Australia on the convergence of the computing, telephony and broadcasting industries he has been invited to be chairman and speaker at over 60 conferences in Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
Peter has written numerous papers and been featured in hundreds of radio and television interviews and in all major Australian newspapers and business magazines.
Peter has regularly presented seminars on understanding “The Information Superhighway” and subsequently “The Digital Revolution” to major corporations, industry associations and the government including;

AANA, ACP Publishing, AMP, Arthur Andersen, Australian Defence Industries, Bankers Trust, CEASA, CEDA, Channel 9, DOTAC, George Patterson, J. Walter Thompson, KPMG Peat Marwick, Macquarie Bank, Merchant and Partners, Nielsen, Optus Communications, Westpac and executives attending many media conferences.

Since 2002 provided advice to the Premium Movie Partnership which owns the Showtime Movie Channels on strategic and competitive issues in the Australian subscription and free-to-air markets. PMP is jointly owned by four Hollywood studios - Twentieth Century Fox, Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios and Liberty Media.
In 2004 commissioned by The Australian Association of National Advertisers to develop and present their submissions to the DCITA reviews on multichannelling and the fourth commercial television licence.
Over the last 25 years Peter has also provided leadership through management and strategic consulting to local and overseas investment bankers, governments, corporations and investors in the Australian media and communications industry. Clients have included:
