You will be reading in the press and receiving from each of the networks their versions of how they won the ratings battle for 2005; Seven the 'number one in news and public affairs', Nine Still The One, TEN the one for 16-39, SBS the ethnic sporting one and the ABC trying not to beat anyone.
The publicity battle is on between the networks to win not only the hearts and minds of viewers but more importantly to set the advertising rates with the media buying groups for 2006.
We present in this report some of the basic facts with a minimum of comment to provide a background for you to draw your own conclusions on ratings expectations for next year.
The first surprise for some may be to find after the avalanche of publicity about Seven throughout the year that Nine actually won the ratings by 2.1% after a nerve wracking start to the year.
