George Green

George Green is a world leading expert on broadband data networks for last mile solutions for broadband modems, residential gateways and Ethernet and DSL Set Top terminals for streaming video and interactive video-on-demand systems.

George’s career began in television broadcasting R&D in the UK. In 1980 he worked in Cable Television and Satellite transmission systems specializing in Set Top terminal development and International sales for Zenith Corporation, Scientific Atlanta and then General Instrument, now Motorola. George has been fortunate in his career to always have been associated with the introduction of pioneering technologies for broadcast and broadband systems.

At Bell Northern Research in Ottawa, he pioneered the first use of Ku band satellite technology for video transmission systems and then at CBS Labs he developed leading edge video enhancement technologies for broadcast applications. Subsequently George was responsible for introducing the first Pay TV Set Tops in North America, Brazil, Venezuela, Indonesia, and in Australia.

In 1984 George began developing international markets for Set Top terminals in South America and Europe and then in 1988 was responsible for introducing the first PAY TV Set Tops in Asia for RCTI in Jakarta .

Since 1988 George has focused his business development efforts in the Asia Pacific region and has operated in every country from New Zealand to Japan, including China and India. In 1993 he took up permanent residence in Hong Kong where he was the Managing Director for five years, initially for General Instrument and then for Antec International. In both cases George established a strong and leading presence for these corporations and built up regional offices and local staffing throughout the entire Asia Pacific region.

At Scientific Atlanta and General Instrument he pioneered the introduction of MPEG 2 digital video transmission systems for satellite and broadcast applications and was instrumental in assisting the DOC in Canberra to develop digital TV standards for Australia.

In 1999 George helped build a new venture in Broadband Wireless for which he received a patent. As well he assisted SeaChange International to introduce their Video On Demand systems to the Asia Pacific region.
Then in 2001 George began his own company, Pacific Broadband Inc. to introduce last mile technologies for broadband networks across the entire Asia Pacific region. This included broadband modems, Fiber-to-the Home (FTTH) solutions, wireless gateways and Ethernet and DLS MPEG 2 Set Tops.

 

Current projects that he is working on involve system consulting services where Pacific Broadband is currently assisting two companies to develop new business plans to raise first level funding between $5 to $12 million. In one case this is for a new broadband wireless data system and in the other case for enhanced sms and email services for mobile telephones for application throughout the Asia Pacific region. Apart from assisting a large corporation in to source broadband modems and MPEG 2 Set Tops for the Japan Cable TV market. Pacific Broadband is also currently providing assistance to a company to help them establish a new business in the Punjab region and working with the local telecommunication providers that we know in India.

In 1971 George graduated from Plymouth Polytechnic in the UK with a Diploma in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) He has also been awarded two patents, one for a consumer electronics programmable remote control systems for Set Top terminals and another for broadband wireless systems. Amongst his many other achievements he has given numerous papers on new technology developments and trends throughout the entire Asia Pacific region.

Green has offices in Hong Kong and in Kuala Lumpur and has many years experience in providing technology advice in India, China, Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and in Australia. George is one of the founders, a Senior VP and on the board of directors of MediaCell Inc. a leading technology provider of advanced broadband wireless systems, based in Denver Colorado.
